Online launch event
Tuesday 25 February 10am

In 2012, the Wigan Deal was a radical response to austerity which aimed to rethink the relationship between the Council and local residents. It has helped Wigan Council transform its culture and ways of working to improve support for local people.
But in 2023, Wigan Council recognised that the Deal was no longer fit for the challenges of today. Embarking on a process to refresh their strategy and build a new movement for change across the borough, the Council engaged Collaborate CIC and IPPR North to lead research and engagement to help identify what was needed in this ‘new era’. And Progress with Unity was born. This process was about holding on to strengths developed through the Deal, while also identifying where the Council and partners needed to go further.
At this event you’ll hear from the Wigan Council leader David Molyneux, CEO Alison McKenzie-Folan, wider Wigan borough partners and Collaborate CIC about the development and implications of Progress with Unity. There will also be input from wider local and national government leaders on how Wigan’s journey can be part of shaping a movement for change in public services.
Participants will have the opportunity to share questions and reflections and identify what you’d find helpful to explore further with Wigan Council and peers in the future.
The event is aimed at those working in local government and wider public services, political leaders, and anyone interested in collaborative place-based change.
